Carmen Alvarez

Carmen Elena Alvarez was born in Caracas, Venezuela. She was interested in music from a very early age and started studying piano at age 7 with Erna Muhlbauer. She entered the 'Escuela de Musica Juan Manuel Olivares' where she studied music for 8 years, theory and solfege under Mario Luisa Stopello and Alvaro Fernaud, harmony under Angel Sauce, music history and piano under Gina Balbi. She also studied harmony with Maria Guinand and voice with Manuela Velo at 'Escuela de Musica Jose Lorenzo Llamozas' and, later on, she studied voice with Sandra Silvio. She has been a member of several choral groups in Venezuela, Argentina and the United States, such as 'Cantoria Alberto Grau' under the direction of Maria Guinand, 'Schola Cantorum de Caracas' under the direction of Alberto Grau, 'Musica Antigua' under the direction of Ruth Gosewinkel, 'Florilegium Musicum' under the direction or Rosa Briceno, 'Musica Reservata' under the direction of Sandra Silvio, 'Camerata Barroca de Caracas' under the direction of Isabel Palacios, the 'St. Laurence Chamber Singers' and the 'Houston Cecilia Chamber Choir' both under the direction of Kevin Klotz. She is currently a member of the 'Hispanic Choir of Houston' She is currently retired after a long career in the Oil and Gas industry and is working as a licensed court interpreter for Harris County, Fort Bend County and Montgomery County. In her free time she practices and teaches Aerial Silks at Crystal Yoga Studio
