Edey Sarmiento

Edey Sarmiento was born in Bogotá, Colombia, on January 9, 1952. She completed her early education in her hometown and, in 1976, moved with her family to Caracas, Venezuela, where she lived for over 45 years. During her time in Caracas, she balanced household responsibilities with work as an architectural draftswoman, while maintaining a strong and lasting interest in music. For a brief period, she attended classes at the Fundación Bigott, where she began basic studies in cuatro (a traditional Venezuelan instrument), music theory, and solfège. However, due to her many commitments, she was unable to continue with formal musical training. In 2006, she began her choral journey as a member of the Coral El Cigarral, under the direction of Professor María Octavia Iza, where she sang in the soprano section for two years. In 2014, she also joined the Coral del Hatillo, directed by Professor Anaida Cárquez, remaining there for seven years and further deepening her experience in choral repertoire. She currently resides in Houston, Texas, where she continues her musical path as an active member of the Hispanic Choir of Houston, participating in the soprano section and sharing her love of choral music with the Hispanic community.
