Honorio Campos
Venezuelan Spanish. Born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1961. Master in Mechanical Engineering (1978-1990), specialization in manufacturing engineering (Germany, 1992). Work experience with various companies in Venezuela in the manufacturing area as well as with process plants design. Also worked as an Industry consultant and as professor teaching manufacturing courses at the Universidad Simon Bolivar and Universidad Metropolitana in Caracas, Venezuela. Since December 1999 I have been working for a German Insurance company as an underwriting manager for the technical segments (construction, Oil & Gas and Power generation).
My relationship with the music started at the age of 11 when I joined a Catholic school (Colegio San Antonio de la Florida) in Caracas and auditioned for the school choir. I remember the choir conductor Mr. Monroy saying to the rest of the choir kids after the audition that the choir had now a “soloist”!!. I did sing with the choir from 1972 to 1974 and besides regular presentations, we did appear on TV several times as our choir performed every year at the “Telecommunications mass” which was broadcasted on TV. We were also invited to a popular TV show called “El show de Renny”
After that early experience, I have been member of various choirs during different phases of my life, including Coral Tecnoconsult (1972-74), Musica Antiqua de Caracas (1990-92), Scholla Cantorum de Caracas (1993-96), Markus Choir – Munich, Germany (2000-2001) and since we moved to Houston in 2006 I have been member of two Church choirs, Parroquia Virtual Venezolana choir (2007-2008) and ICT choir (2014-2016). I also did sing Medieval music with a choir ensemble led by Aquiles Torres and Liliana Manzano (2009-10) and joined the Hispanic Choir of Houston in 2022.
Among the various musical pieces that I had an opportunity to sing, I remember specially the classical choral pieces such as the B-minor Mass (J.S. Bach) which I did when I was with the Musica antiqua choir, as well as Carmina Burana or the Mozart and Inocente Carreño requiems which we did during my time with the Scholla Cantorum. I also had the chance to sing the Mozart Requiem with the Markus Choir while living in Munich, Germany. Among the conductors I will never forget the experience of singing under the direction of Alberto Grau and Maria Guinand while at the Scholla Cantorum de Caracas or under Gisela Gosewinkel and Carlos Riazuelo when we performed the B-minor Mass with the Musica Antiqua choir. Last but not least, it has been a privilege to sing under the conduction of Jessica Colmenares and Cruz Cabrera now in this phase of my choral experience with the Hispanic Choir of Houston.
Finally, I complemented my musical education by completing the Music theory programs at the J.M. Olivares and Jose Lorenzo Llamozas music conservatories in Caracas, Venezuela (1974-82). I also started taking Guitar lessons but unfortunately could not continue as my time with the university program was very limited.
