
William Niño
Petroleum engineer, born in Caracas, Venezuela. Since childhood, I started playing Venezuelan cuatro, and during high school, I was part of the Estudiantina of Simón Bolívar High School, where I began to experiment with other instruments like guitar and mandolin. I was invited to join the Estudiantina of Francisco de Miranda University College as a cuatro player. Later, I participated as a cuatro player in the Típica Orchestra of the Sucre Municipality under the direction of Maestro Julio Balza.
When I started my studies at the Faculty of Engineering at the Central University of Venezuela, I was part of the Caney Group of Venezuelan Folk Music, where I got involved in playing Afro-Venezuelan percussion, electric bass, and bandola llanera. Also, during my engineering studies, I was part of the Coral of the Faculty of Engineering. At the same time, I participated in the Oro Negro Ensemble, a group for Venezuelan folk music in an instrumental format, and the Petro-Gaitas group. Living in Argentina, I participated as a bassist in the Argentine rock group 'Los Paesónicos' and played bandola at the 'Joropo in Buenos Aires' meetings organized by the Camoruco group.
Living in Colombia, I started to get involved in playing the Arpa Llanera. Living in the United States, I got involved in the Hispanic Choir of Houston and was also invited to be part of the string sextet Interludio.
